UCA Re-Enrollment

Dear Parents,

Once again, God is blessing and bringing families to UCA that want to give their children a distinctly Christ-centered, academically excellent, classical education as a foundation for life-long learning.  Giving God the glory for our continued growth, we are sending our re-enrollment package to the parents of our current students.  Please complete one package for each child.  A firm March 7th deadline for re-registration is necessary.  If you do not re-enroll and submit the re-enrollment fee by March 7th, we must assume we have your permission to give those spaces to new students.  Due to the excitement of moving to a new building, we anticipate that all classes will be filled and there will be a waiting list.  After March 7th, your student will be “in line” with new student applications and may end up in a waiting pool, simply due to class size limitations.

Re-enrollment forms are to be filled out and returned with your non-refundable registration fee and tuition contract at one of our UCA Open House events.  These need to be submitted and paid for in person.  Current student registration fees are $275 for Pre-K - 5th grade and $375 for 6th – 12th.  These fees are for curriculum and books for the upcoming year and are due per student, not per family.  We ask that you also read the revised Student/Parent Handbook which has been included with this packet.  Forms and fees will need to be completed and brought to UCA on one of the dates below at a UCA Open House.  We will be talking about Classical Education, UCA past & present, the application process, and Parent Council opportunities with a short Q&A time to follow.  Open House events dates are as follows:

Tuesday, February 18th from 5pm to 6pm

Monday, February 24th from 6pm to 7pm

Saturday, March 1st from 9:45am to 10:45am

Thursday, March 6th from 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Tuition for the 2014-15 school year will begin on June 1st.  UCA will be implementing a convenient new process for our parents to submit tuition payments.  We are partnering with FACTS Management Company to provide our families a streamlined and customized method to handle payments for tuition and fees.  You will be receiving more information in the next couple of months as we begin the process of accepting tuition payments through FACTS.

If you have questions about next year or have concerns that need to be addressed, please call so that we can help answer any questions.  We want to be partners in educating your children with a specifically Christ-centered, academically excellent, and classical education.

Our Motto

School Motto: Esse Quam Videri

Esse quam videri (EH-say kwahm vee-DAY-ree), literally translated from Latin into English, means “to be, rather than to seem.” The word-by-word translation is as follows: ‘esse’ means ‘to be’; ‘quam’ means ‘as, how, than’; and ‘videri’ means ‘to seem’.

Welcome to Admissions!

Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. This page on our website should help you find the relevant information you need to explore Uvalde Classical Academy and then proceed with an application for admission.

The first step of your investigation of UCA is to schedule an Informative Meeting with the Head of School and make a visit to see our school. You should meet others in our school community and observe our operation before proceeding. You may call our office to schedule an appointment for a visit and/or observation. Our phone number is (830)591-2242. During the school term, office hours are 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Again, please call to schedule an initial visit or to find out any information you may require.

The second step in the application process is schedule a family interview. This is a meeting in which the parents and students meet with the Head of School to review the application and to discuss the student’s placement test results (test will be given prior to the family interview). There is a onetime application fee of $50.00 per student and it is not refundable. This meeting provides you with an opportunity to ask any questions in your exploration of our school. You will want to read the essay by Dorothy Sayers called the "Lost Tools of Learning" (found at www.gbt.org/text/sayers.html or on the UCA website, under the Parents tab). It is an excellent primer for parents on 'classical' pedagogy and philosophy.

After your family/student is accepted to UCA, you will need to complete the remaining enrollment documents and return documents that require a signature from both parents and student. This package will include the UCA Statement of Faith. The core curriculum of a classical Christian school is Holy Scripture. It guides our thoughts, words, intentions, actions, and efforts as believers, parents, students, and staff. Our Statement of Faith helps define our primary and secondary doctrines. As a community of learning, our primary doctrine clearly defines our core shared beliefs of the institution and unites us. We are a community of like- minded educators and parents bound by the instructions, directions, and commands of God for His glory and praise alone. Please consider and pray over the agreement to support the UCA Statement of Faith. Parents must sign a copy of the Statement of Faith as part of the application process. The enrollment package also includes a Statement of Parental Responsibility, our Motto, Mission Statement, and our Goals for a Graduate of UCA Profile (job description for our graduate). These documents help describe our students and our vision for our graduates.

Parents are asked to read An Introduction to Classical Education (a guide for parents) by Christopher Perrin. There is a link for this guide on UCA’s website, under the Parents tab. Additionally, a parent should read one or more of the following:
1. The Case for Classical Christian Education, Douglas Wilson

2. Wisdom and Eloquence, Littlejohn and Evans 3. Repairing the Ruins, edited by Douglas Wilson

For your convenience there is a Steps to Admissions and Checklist form which should help guide the entire application process. Once the paperwork is submitted to the school and the application fee is paid, an interview is arranged and placement testing can be scheduled. All students are placed based on records from previous school setting, parent interview, and our assessment. By submitting the application and fee, participating in the parent interview, and submitting previous school records for our use, the parents are agreeing to the programming (curriculum, policies, rules, guidelines, and practices) of Uvalde Classical Academy.

UCA is eager to begin our covenant with parents to educate students, support the home, and follow the words of Jesus in Mark 12:30. Christ inclusion of the ‘mind’ as part of the ‘Shema Strategy’ of Deuteronomy 6:4-7 is intentional. Our mandate as a school is best described in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. We want to equip our students for every good work. We are committed to a quality education for every student - "Esse Quam Videri."
